Cannot compromise Genetic Test

When it comes to choosing a sperm donor, many people start with appearance, personality, or legal status.

But there are two non-negotiables that should never be overlooked — and that every recipient should know before they match:

🧬 1. Genetic Compatibility
If you know you carry a recessive genetic condition like cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs, or sickle cell trait, you must match with a donor who has been tested for that same condition.

Why?

- Because when two carriers of the same recessive gene conceive, there's a 25% chance the child will be affected.
- And while some donors may be healthy, that doesn’t mean they’re genetically compatible. This is why it’s critical to:
- Get genetic testing yourself first (via your doctor or a clinic)
- Request test results from the donor
- Avoid assumptions or verbal reassurances — ask for documentation

🛡️ 2. Regular STD Testing
The second dealbreaker is a lack of transparent, ongoing STD testing.

Responsible donors:

- Undergo regular testing (often every 3-6 months)
- Keep a documented record of negative results

Understand the importance of recipient safety — and never push back when asked for proof

What to watch out for:
🚫 Donors who “don’t believe in testing”
🚫 Donors who avoid the question or provide vague answers
🚫 Anyone who pressures you to move forward without verifying health
